CANADIAN MUSEUM FOR HUMAN RIGHTS — A CALL FOR INCLUSIVENESS, EQUITY AND FAIRNESS

Featured Article #2

The CMHR represents a unique opportunity for Canada to be recognized as a leader in reflecting and further advancing contemporary research on genocide and human rights and in telling the story of all genocides without any attempt to represent the suffering of one nation, tribe or community as having been of more relevance or importance than any other’s. All attempts to do so argue fundamentally do an injustice to the memory of the many millions of victims of genocide throughout the ages, whether they suffered in Europe, or somewhere else.

The Origins of the Name Canada

Featured Article #6

How did Canada get its name? Most Canadians, if asked about the origins of the name “Canada”, will admittedly lament their ignorance of that part of Canadian history. Of those that do remember, they might even recall the “official” version of how Canada got its name, the one they received from the TV commercial “A Part Of Our Heritage – Canada.” After all, Canadian history is not a subject taught in the schools, per se. Education remains in provincial jurisdiction so each region features their preferred understandings of Canada’s history. As such, there are many competing theories on how Canada came to be known and called. All of them fascinating and equally compelling, but only three theories tend to capture the hearts and minds of historians and researchers more so than the others. They are presented here momentarily.

Northern Manitoba Canadian Resort Lodges Update Announcement

With all its 100,000 lakes and great north the Canadian Province of Manitoba is surely known as a Walleye, Pickerel and Bass fisherman paradise. Never mind the scenery, along with the Northern Lights, Aura Borealis or Arctic Lights”.

PR Log (Press Release) – Jul 20, 2009 – With all   its 100,000 lakes and great north the Canadian Province of Manitoba is surely known as a Walleye, Pickerel and Bass fisherman paradise. Never mind the scenery, along with the Northern Lights, Aura Borealis or Arctic Lights”. What outdoors person, fishing or hunting enthusiast could ask for more?

This more than internationally known green ecologist’s anglers well as prominent hunter’s pleasure land have made a major announcement.   The measure is of an unprecedented development and upgrade turning what was a carefully held secret of an outdoorsmen and ecological hideaway into a fully accessible, luxury getaway and vacation spot. . Indeed this is the largest development in the province of Manitoba – outside the major metropolitan areas of Winnipeg.

This secret area , known as “God’s Country”  to the world’s knowing travelers and sportspeople  and “Cottage Country”  to those who travel from faraway fro the serenity of their cottage in the secluded , rustic outback is known  the “locals”  as  “The Narrows”  or more properly and fully “Lake Manitoba Narrows”.

Why the naming of this corner of the world as the “Lake Manitoba Narrows”?  All the newcomer or budding geographer has to do is simply look either an auto highway or satellite hunting map of the Manitoba and specifically the Northern Manitoba Lake regions. . Highway 68 bisects large Lake Manitoba right in its middle, and there at the narrowest part of the lake – halfway up, right in the middle and surrounded by all that virgin scenery never mind hunting and fishing is the Lake Manitoba Narrows tourist, ecotourism and sportsmen’s regions.

Not long ago a major announcement for the area was made. The announcement was that of a 287 million dollar hotel upgrade facility complete with a water park complex that would operate fully and completely 12 months around the calendar year – summertime, fall, wintertime and spring making the region even into a family vacationer’s delight.

As well avid golfers will soon be able to enjoy a full and complete 18 whole golf course to be completed shortly in the near future. . The Lake Manitoba Narrows hotel and water park complex, in the upgrade announcement, has been said to include a 198 room hotel and conference center.  The hotel complex will be completed with two full dining room areas.   Lastly for family and vacationers will be the crowning touch – the 32,000 square foot recreational water park- great for kids and adult vacationers as well.

The hotel complex is planned as a year round resort – only two hours away from Winnipeg. With its conference faculties, world class fishing and hunting availability, as well as virgin outdoors areas for eco and green tourism, it should serve as more than a strong lure for business training and sales conferences. Lots of bait to attract visitors, tourists and those attending conferences and workshops but isolated enough both to be rustic and yet keep those attendees focused and nearby on hand. Never mind being Manitoba and Northern Canada’s premier Trophy Walleye destination. Lots of fat trophy Northern Pike, Walleye and Lake Manitoba Pickerel fishing.

Construction is expected to begin shortly, in the spring of 2010 with a completion estimated date of spring 2012.

Who knows but while enjoying the Lake Manitoba Narrows deluxe wilderness getaway you may catch a glimpse of its most famous resident – Jadran Transcona?   Lake Manitoba offers outstanding resort facilities with world class hunting and fishing lodges. Fish Manitoba Narrows offers a taste of what a traveler, sportsmen, hunter or fisherman can enjoy in tranquil, scenic relaxing settings
