CANADIAN MUSEUM FOR HUMAN RIGHTS — A CALL FOR INCLUSIVENESS, EQUITY AND FAIRNESS
Featured Article
The CMHR represents a unique opportunity for Canada to be recognized as a leader in reflecting and further advancing contemporary research on genocide and human rights and in telling the story of all genocides without any attempt to represent the suffering of one nation, tribe or community as having been of more relevance or importance than any other’s. All attempts to do so argue fundamentally do an injustice to the memory of the many millions of victims of genocide throughout the ages, whether they suffered in Europe, or somewhere else.
How did Canada get its name? Most Canadians, if asked about the origins of the name “Canada”, will admittedly lament their ignorance of that part of Canadian history. Of those that do remember, they might even recall the “official” version of how Canada got its name, the one they received from the TV commercial “A Part Of Our Heritage – Canada.” After all, ...

Canada’s Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff Has Trouble Connecting With The Ukrainian Community
A recently released article clearly details why Canada’s Liberal Party Leader has trouble winning the Ukrainian vote in Canada.
PR Log (Press Release) – Jan 06, 2010 – A recently published article “Michael Ignatieff Offends Ukrainians” makes a straight forward and compelling expose of the Liberal Party Leader’s gaffes with the Ukrainian community in Canada. From beginning to end, a systematic effort is made to chronologically document the whole Ukrainian-Ignatieff mess in its proper context. The reader learns how and where it all started, and why the Liberal Leader’s character and integrity comes into question. No one should vote for Ignatieff until they read what is in this article.

MEDVEDEV-MERKEL DUO BEGUN A CAMPAIGN OF EXCUSING STALIN AND HITLER
By Yuriy Syrotyuk
Global Politician
According to the ITAR-TASS news agency, on the 14th of August 2009 at a joint press conference with Russian President D. Medvedev in Sochi (Russian Federation), German Chancellor Angela Merkel assured the Russian leader that Germany would resist any heroization of Nazism and National Socialism in Ukraine.
This brutal invective launched towards the Ukrainian nation, which carried on its shoulders the main burden of World War II that was unleashed by Moscow and Berlin, shows that the so-called "Shroederization” (Euro-bureaucrats being on the Kremlin’s payroll) has reached its peak. This process has affected the German political establishment ...
Michael Ignatieff’s Offensive Remarks Still a Problem
By Ihor Cap
The whole Ignatieff-Ukrainian mess started just after the Liberal Leader’s trip to Ukraine. From then, it resurfaced again with Dr. Ignatieff’s “uncontested nomination” to the Liberal Party of Canada. Ukrainians were upset that two perfectly qualified Ukrainians were “snookered” out of their nominations in the Etobicoke-Lakeshore Riding to make room for Dr. Ignatieff, writes Myron Kuropas in The Ukrainian Weekly.
Soon after, the demotion of Ukrainian-Canadian Liberal MP Critic for Citizenship, Immigration & Multiculturalism Borys Wrzesnewskyj to the backbenches caused quite a stir in the Ukrainian community and some grief for the Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada Michael Ignatieff as he scrambled across Canada to patch things up with leaders in the Ukrainian ...
Ukrainians... Victorious or Victims of War?
By Vasyl Chervoniy
Translated by Ihor Cap and Dariya Dyryk-Cap
What prompted me to write is the large-scale propagandist campaign with anti-Ukrainian undertones, dedicated to the so-called Victory Day inundating all the Ukrainian TV channels and Ukrainian cities.
Not even in the days of Scherbitsky or Kuchma were there such loud panegyrics to the "liberators" as during Yushchenko’s rule. It stretched a whole three weeks, and this, on the 18th year of Ukrainian Independence!
My relatives, like most Ukrainians, fought against fascism in the Red Army, as well as in the ranks of UPA. That is why it is easy for me to speak on the subject of war with any audience. However, I will no longer tolerate the belittlement of Ukrainians by downplaying their contribution as far as ridding Europe of German fascism and ...
Why Obama Can't Reset Relations with Putin's Russia
By Alexander Motyl
U.S. President Barack Obama wants to "reset" America's relations with Russia, but the nature of the Russian regime won't permit much change. Obama can easily reject the style and correct the mistakes of his predecessor, George W. Bush, but doing so will not alter the fact that Putin's Russia must engage in imperialist rhetoric and pursue great-power aspirations in order to legitimize itself. As long as Russia insists on imperial dominance over the former Soviet states, U.S.-Russia relations can improve only marginally.
Under Vladimir Putin's guidance, Russia has moved decisively away from democracy. Democratic institutions are at best moribund; the party of power, United Russia, controls politics; civil society and the press are severely circumscribed; the siloviki-members of the military and secret ...
Translation of editorial in Ukrainian Echo (Homin Ukrainy)
February 10, 2009
On Thursday, January 22, 2009 the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, Michael Ignatieff, announced his first Shadow Cabinet, in which he removed the Member of Parliament for Etobicoke Centre, Borys Wrzesnewskyj, from his post of Critic for Citizenship, Immigration, and Multiculturalism. Moreover, Michael Igantieff completely dismissed Borys Wrzesnewskyj from the Shadow Cabinet of the Liberal Party- the official opposition to Stephen Harper’s Conservative Government.
As is widely known, Borys Wrzesnewskyj is privy to the support of not only the Ukrainian community, but also that of ...

It is a sign of a mature culture, when that culture can be the one bright moment in a week of political wrangling. It is also a sign of a mature culture when no one even misses a beat or has to explain the joke. If that is the case, once again we see that Ukrainian Canadian culture has arrived as a mature culture.
