CANADIAN MUSEUM FOR HUMAN RIGHTS — A CALL FOR INCLUSIVENESS, EQUITY AND FAIRNESS
Featured Article
The CMHR represents a unique opportunity for Canada to be recognized as a leader in reflecting and further advancing contemporary research on genocide and human rights and in telling the story of all genocides without any attempt to represent the suffering of one nation, tribe or community as having been of more relevance or importance than any other’s. All attempts to do so argue fundamentally do an injustice to the memory of the many millions of victims of genocide throughout the ages, whether they suffered in Europe, or somewhere else.
How did Canada get its name? Most Canadians, if asked about the origins of the name “Canada”, will admittedly lament their ignorance of that part of Canadian history. Of those that do remember, they might even recall the “official” version of how Canada got its name, the one they received from the TV commercial “A Part Of Our Heritage – Canada.” After all, ...

How Party of Regions Deputies Pass Laws in Ukraine Parliament
posted on: 2010-12-05 20:45:12
Recently, less than 100 Pro-Russian Party of Regions (POR) Deputies in the Ukraine Parliament managed to obtain the required 226 votes to pass a new tax bill. How? As the saying goes, “You got to see it to believe it.” It’s all caught on tape. So, keep your shirt on and read the rest of the story before you watch the videos.
Deputy Chechetov's role is clear in the videos. He directs everyone like an old Soviet Puppet Master on how to vote depending on how his hands are raised. Then, all POR Deputies “democratically" submit their votes on computer, and the new tax bill is successfully passed.
Observe closely how the POR Deputies not only press their own computer to cast a vote in the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine but also that of their colleagues who are not present. Article 84 of the Ukrainian Constitution requires that each National Deputy of Ukraine vote in person. Oddly, this bill receives assent despite the anti-constitutional means of obtaining the vote. Cries of “Shame” are heard on video from Opposition members.
Is this what the current Ukrainian President Yanukovych means about strengthening democratic values? Is this the same guy who just a few weeks earlier signed a decree “on strengthening democracy and establishing the rule of law”?
Another Deputy from the Opposition filmed this charade with his cell camera and posted it on You Tube. I wonder if the POR Deputies will apply the same “democratic” means to make changes to the Constitution of Ukraine which they are planning to change in the near future. Time will tell.
Anyway, here are the videos. No translation is required here.
