“Eight Critical Leadership Questions”

At some time, everyone in an organization must take a leadership role if it is to become a world class, responsive and agile entity. In this light, how many of the following questions can you answer in the affirmative?
1. Am I the type of leader I admire in others?
2. Am I building a personal foundation of inspired leadership?
3. Am I aware of my personal leadership impact on others?
4. Am I clearly aligned with the direction and vision of the leadership of the company?
5. Do I clearly understand the company vision and take the responsibility to keep my understanding of the vision current as the conditions change?

Five Benefits of Leadership Development Coaching
The Five Benefits of Leadership Development Coaching Are:
1. LESS EXPENSIVE
Developing, coaching and promoting internal people to a leadership position is significantly less expensive than:  Advertising, recruitment fees, time wading through resumes, relocation and interviews with unknowns, signing bonus and the training/break-in costs typically required bringing in someone new from the outside. Some studies indicate that 50% of the new hires at the executive level only last between 6 to 9 months. Just like good new customers are often expensive and hard to find, so too is good new leadership.
2. MORE COST EFFECTIVE
Studies show that replacing a management level employee by hiring from the outside can cost between two and four times the annual salary of the position being filled. According to some firms, this is a conservative ...

The Values of Widgetbox
Recently, the Widgetbox team went through a process that helped us define what we value and stand for as a company.  It was a pretty awesome experience – I highly recommend it!  Essentially, we all chose 5 or so people we would like to put on our personal "Values Board."  These people are the folks each of us turn to and are inspired by when we think about what we care about and how we want to conduct ourselves in the world.  Some of them are historical figures, some from our families, and some are business leaders, entertainers, authors and even fictional characters.
I thought it would be fun to share our collective values board with all of you as well – check it out!  (You’ll have to ask Grant about Mike Tyson though – he can explain that a whole lot better than I can, but I promise ...

The Forces of Leadership
INTRODUCTION
Thinking about leadership can be represented by two major orientations, one emphasizing the transactional nature of leadership and the other emphasizing the transformational (Burns, 1979).  To this point, these two orientations continue to receive considerable emphasis in the literature.  The reason for this emphasis was suggested by Peters and Waterman (1982) when they stated that "an effective leader must be the master of two ends of the spectrum:  ideas at the highest level of abstraction and actions at the most mundane level of detail" (p.287).
This article, then, attempts to identify and describe some of the elements of "effectiveness" characteristic of these two orientations.  In the ...
