«FATHER OF THE GENOCIDE CONVENTION»
by Lubomyr Luciuk

Only seven people came to bury him. He rests beneath a simple stone in New York’s Mount Hebron cemetery, the sole clue to his historical importance an inscription incised below his name - “Father Of The Genocide Convention.”
As a graduate student I was obliged to read his book, Axis Rule in Occupied Europe: Laws of Occupation, Analysis of Government, Proposals for Redress, frankly more door-stopper than page-turner. Nowadays, with advocates for “humanitarian intervention” shilling the notion of a “duty to intervene” whenever and wherever necessary to “stop genocide,” Dr. Raphael Lemkin’s name and words are better known. After all he fathered ...

Still too Few Women in Science in Europe
Brussels, 25 November 2009
Women represent only 30% of European researchers and only 18% of full professors, according to the latest edition of the "She Figures", a survey on Statistics and Indicators on Gender Equality in Science published today by the European Commission 1 . Even if the number of female researchers is growing faster than that of men (+6.3% annually compared to +3.7% from 2002 to 2006) - and despite an increase in the proportion of female PhDs of +6.8% over the same period, the under-representation of women in scientific disciplines and careers remains a serious challenge in Europe. The publication of the "She Figures 2009" coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Helsinki Group on Women in Science, through which the EU Member States and the European Commission worked together to address gender ...

by Lubomyr Luciuk
Rafael Lemkin who coined the term ‘genocide,’ called the Holodomor a classic case of Soviet genocide.
Only seven people came to bury him. He rests beneath a simple stone in New York’s Mount Hebron cemetery, the sole clue to his historical importance an inscription incised below his name - “Father Of The Genocide Convention.”

Nearly 75 percent Ukrainians say the interethnic situation is fraught with conflict
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Oksana ONYSHCHENKO
While they are bringing to light the painful problems of the Armed Forces, the countryside, and health care system, Ukraine’s political forces shyly avoid an equally painful issue of xenophobia, which has spread all over this society. They keep silent on this subject except during election campaigns when they warn the electorate against “Jewish banking capital that has merged with the political system” or challenge the status of Ukrainian as the only official language. Other examples could be cited. The big question is, Do they reflect a nationwide trend?
Ethnic minorities make up 22 percent of Ukraine’s population. According to a poll carried out by ...
