Bear Tagging in Algonquin Park (Ontario, Canada)
posted by Ihor Cap
Rick Mercer is off to beautiful Algonquin Park in Northern Ontario to do some bear tagging. Normally, that is not a problem if you are a professional bear tagger. However, Rick Mercer is neither a bear expert nor a veterinarian. He is one of Canada’s favorite comedians. Now you get the picture. He teams up with Park Ranger, Dr. Martin Olbert (an authentic professional bear tagger) to learn how bear tagging is done in the real world. Not an easy task when the park contains 35 wolf packs and over 3 thousand moose. Watch him nervously make his way to the den with just shovel in hand for protection. It’s 7 minutes and 42 seconds of fun-filled action in the wilderness. But be prepared to laugh and go awwwwwwwwwwww as well.
Mama bear is feeding three of the cutest bear cubs you have ever seen. You just gotta see it. Some of the funniest lines I enjoyed in the video are noted below.
“Here is your new collar, same as last year’s model except it carries way more new songs,” says R.M.
“What is the life expectancy of a bear?”, asks R.M followed immediately by
“What is the life expectancy of a Bear Expert?”, asks R.M.
“So, we’ll need to get someone to get the drugs”, says Dr. Olbert
“How about a double dose”, replies R.M.
Go on, give it a peek!
