When using natural indoor mosquito control products or products like repellents so you can enjoy the outdoors without getting eaten alive, it is important to follow the instructions on the product label. Those people who do not follow the instructions on the label can become very ill if using too much. It can also be harmful if used in areas on the body you shouldn't. Plants and birds can also be affected by repellents if you spray too much of the products in an enclosed area. It is always best when using sprays to step outside of the house to apply them.
Spray repellents used for natural mosquito control should only be used on areas exposed directly. If you are wearing a long sleeve shirt there is no reason to spray the repellent underneath your shirt. It is better not to spray repellent directly to the skin if you don't have to. Spray the repellent on your legs, hands, arms, and areas exposed. Never spray a repellent in the face near the eyes and mouth. If you do not want to get bit by a mosquito in the face, spray the repellent on your hands and apply to the face using your hands. This will ensure you do not get any of the spray in your mouth or eyes.
Another consideration when using repellents as natural methods for mosquito control is if you have open wounds like cuts or irritated skin. Spraying or rubbing a repellent on an open wound can cause an infection and even be extremely painful. Pay attention when spraying repellents on children. Children tend to get cuts and scratches on the skin from playing hard. It is best to apply natural mosquito control repellents on children, rather than let them spray the product themselves. This will ensure open wounds are not affected.
There are many different natural methods for mosquito control you can use. The active ingredient you might see on over the counter items includes DEET, Picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, and IR3535. Most people recognize DEET. Oil of eucalyptus should never be used on children younger than the age of 3 years old. Oil of lemon eucalyptus and IR3535 has the longest lasting effects for mosquito repellents, which requires you to apply fewer applications. There are many factors to consider when using natural mosquito control repellents. The most common repellents come in lotion or spray forms. Always follow the instructions on the bottle. Never apply near the mouth, eyes, or open wounds. Do not allow children to apply repellents to their body themselves.
