OPÉRA PICCOLA : New opera company in Montreal Montreal, Monday April 11, 2011 – Taras Kulish and Anne-Marie Trahan are very proud to announce the creation of a new professional opera company in Montreal : OPERA PICCOLA. One of Canada’s first to present professional opera in the summer, OPERA PICCOLA is a registered non-profit organization. It will present one production every summer of familiar repertoire with fresh interpretations focusing on strong acting, stage direction, and dynamic technical production values.
Canada, and especially Quebec, overflows with highly talented singers. These are the performers the company will feature in its productions. OPERA PICCOLA wishes to present opera in a more intimate setting which is why the company has chosen the Outremont Theatre as its home. This theatre, with its approximate 800 seat capacity and excellent acoustics, will be the perfect setting for OPERA PICCOLA’s productions.
The company will present its grand inaugural concert on August 25 and 27, 2011 at the Outremont Theatre. This staged concert will feature Mariateresa Magisano (soprano), Julie Boulianne (mezzo soprano), Luc Robert (tenor), Alexander Dobson (baritone), Esther Gonthier (pianist), Alain Gauthier (stage director) and Anne-Catherine Simard-Desrape (lighting designer). The program will feature excerpts from La Bohème, La Périchole, La Veuve Joyeuse, Rigoletto, Les Contes d'Hoffmann and several other operas and operettas (exact repertoire to be announced shortly). For the 2012 season, OPERA PICCOLA, will present a full production of an operetta.
With a mandate to make the art form accessible to everyone, OPERA PICCOLA, will keep ticket prices extremely affordable. For its inaugural concert, ticket prices will vary between $25 and $55.
